about
"Local rock and roll outfit Cat Fancy! (yes, it needs to be exclaimed) announce their intentions with the phrase “it’s time to take out the space trash.” They do indeed blast a heavy dose of ever so fuzzed-out space rock into the universe, with a few interesting twists. Bandleader Automne Zingg aligns her garage/mod project with staunch dedication to counterculture and feminism, giving their music a sharp swerve that’s far from the benign bands solely in it for the aesthetic. And although the music of Cat Fancy! shares the reverb-heavy bedroom pop sounds of popular female-fronted groups like the Dum Dum Girls and Best Coast, Cat Fancy! oozes with sights and sounds of Portland’s particular underground culture, making them a band all our own.”
-Miranda Bish (Portland Mercury)
"While it takes a name from the cutesy magazine that celebrates all things feline, Cat Fancy is all claws and teeth. The four members of the group combine their musical obsessions—goth pop from the ’80s, soul music past and present, and skittish modern electro—into a singular sound that is dance party ready, sexy and, yes, catty as hell. Be sure to pick up a copy of the band's self-released debut CD, Pick of the Litter, but insist on getting the version with bonus tracks: It features a dirty collaboration with former Make-Up frontman Ian Svenonius."
-Robert Ham (Willamette Week)
"Cat Fancy! rides the art-punk line between pop songwriting and fuck-you dissonance. There are several signifiers that might be attached to the band, such as: riot grrrl (does that still exist?), electro-clash, and glam punk. What these made-up terms all try to express is that Cat Fancy! wear awesome outfits, blow out eardrums, and could probably kick my ass three ways from Sunday."
- Rev. AM (Weekly Volcano)
“Cat Fancy! kind of brings to mind what John Waters directing a video for the Shangri-La’s covering shoegaze songs in Joey Ramone’s basement might sound like."
